Didn't mean to make them sound "little known" (other than any EDA
company is little known to me, it's not my world).  

Although this is a good question:  in the EDA world, how much of the
market do these two hold?  Are they considered leaders, such that them
doing Linux will probably bring others to the table?

 To hack together hardware for a particular
   task, especially a one-shot job.  Connotes an extremely crufty
   and consciously temporary solution.  Compare hack up,
   kluge up, cruft together.
