Worked like a champ; I guess that my old /etc heirarchy must've gotten
stepped on at some point in the past, and I just hadn't realized it.
(I've been in pretty sorry shape for some time, now, on my work computer,
having to do with a melange of "rpm -f"'s and Reiser on RH 7.0. RH 7.1.93
finally offered a QuickFix, but I must've clicked one too many boxes when
prompted with LDAP and Samba authentication questions; silly me -- I
hadn't realized they'd keep *ROOT* from logging in.) Thanks much for the
files!
