Cole,
Thanks for the information. I should point out that despite my issues with
"power sources and wires", I do appreciate the heightened awareness for
security. And I should also point out that it STILL is nowhere near as
rigorous as in trying to fly out of Israel.
As to banning carry-on luggage totally....there are some items that you just
HAVE to carry on board, or else be prepared to see them in small pieces at
the other end of the trip. I have movies of airport baggage handlers, and
it is not pretty. Saying that I have to subject my $5,000 notebook computer
to that is unacceptable, unless the airline is willing to insure the notebook
and its contents.
Besides, will the airlines now start stocking:
o baby diapers
o specially mixed baby formula
o medicines
o disposable cameras (for those "Kodak moments" on board planes)
and any of the other things that people NEED on board an airline for a ten or
fifteen hour trip? And who says what is NEEDed and what is not? For children
going through an anxiety attack because it is their first airline trip a
favorite blanket or toy may help a lot.
I can see limiting it to only one bag (not including a person's purse or pouch),
but eliminating it completely will drive all airlines into bankruptcy (IMHO)
as people chose other methods of transportation.
