Mono or GNU.NET or whatever they are calling it is to be a GPL/LGPL re-implementation of Microsoft's NGWS or .NET or whatever they are calling that. The 'G' in GNOME is not leaving in the foreseeable future. So, assuming GNOME works at all, you will be able to use it without be enslaved to Microsoft. Personally, I am more worried that the GNOME people are wasting time and effort chasing Microsoft vaporware. But hey, it is their time and effort. > There appears to have been little protest to Miguel's praise of M$ and > apparent total committment to go forward with building Gnome on the .NET > platform. I'm wondering why that is. Because Free Software is about Freedom, and he is Free to waste his time, er, I mean, develop his software as he sees fit. ;-) On a more serious note, assuming nothing he likes about .NET violates Free Software principles, I see nothing wrong with him doing it. While experience does show that everything Microsoft touches becomes tainted, they may be smart enough to filter out that taint and keep the good stuff. -- Ben Scott <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> | The opinions expressed in this message are those of the author and do not | | necessarily represent the views or policy of any other person, entity or | | organization.
