Perhaps some of you read some recent press indicating the IBM is no longer "supporting" Linux on Thinkpads. This is not completely true, but certainly true enough to catch mine, and some likeminded peer's, attention. IBM fully intends to support Linux across our product line but, due to lack of shipments, is not intending to offer preloads. Some of you may remember Dave Getzin, who spoke in Nashua. He and I, among others, are part of a sort of underground group, within IBM, advocating Linux on the Desktop. Things are actually going pretty well and we've built some excellent relationships.
My questions to you folks are twofold. Are you interested in Linux on Thinkpads? We're considering trying to get a survey posted. Half a dozen questions or so, mostly yes/no, etc. I looked on SourceForge for programs, etc and found a few. Any comments on survey software? I'd hate to post this on my home server (via AT&T broadband). Any thoughts on sites that might host this for a month or so? We'd like to take the results and show them to IBM corporate and see if we can convince them to reconsider. We assume (dangerous word) that Linux is used far more on Thinkpads than our current shipping numbers (very, very low) would imply, but we're trying to document that. And yes, we do have the ear(s) of some very influential management types. Thank you very much for any help or suggestions on either the Thinkpad issue or the Survey Web Site issue. GGK BTW, this is NOT an IBM sponsored nor supported activity. Simply us doing what we think is right. ***************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the text 'unsubscribe gnhlug' in the message body. *****************************************************************
