Hi!
I must say I am really in awe on lily's recent beautiful drawing
of slurs and ties. This is a great improvement! However, as you
(esp. Jan, I think) told us to look for flaws in the slur drawing,
I can provide some (but I need to be picky sometimes ;-) )
Again, my example is the first Bagatelle by Dvorak (still not
yet finished, as I deem the entering of crescendi and decrescendi
somewhat awkward and didn't do it yet. Also, the placement of dynamic
signs in a piano staff is too fixed either one of the two staves, IMHO)
I translated it using lilypond 1.3.29.
1. There are bar numbers in the cello part in every bar that I didn't
intend.
2. There dynamic markings of the cello part are set in roman (maybe
because of pizz. and arco in roman?)
3. Let's start with slurs: look at bars 31 and 32 (switching a line).
The slurs are IMO too steep, the tie is ok. Maybe the upper slur
should start at the stem end, not at the head here?
4. Bar 41/42, violins: the ties should be the same direction, pref.
down in bar 42.
5. Bar 49, 50, violin 2: the end points of the two slurs look a bit
too far away from the start and end notes (though I'm not really
sure).
6. (Here I am being _very_ picky:) Bar 55, viol. 1, the ends of the
slur are too steep (esp. the start)
7. This is a bug: there's a colon in the middle of the two harmonium
staves
8. bars 62/63, picky again: a steep tie, compared to the following
slur (the slur looks very nice!)
9. bars 67 ff, harmonium lower staff: the slurs end a tiny bit too late
(yes, picky again.)
10. bars 70, 71 harmonium: the placement of the slur in bar 70 compared
to the tie in bar 71 is just great! My heart is full of joy about this!
11. bars 73, 74, 75, violin 2: the slurs bended upwards are too steep,
in 74, 75, they should start at the end of the stems. I know this
is all said more easily than done, I'm sorry...
12. bars 82 to 84 and 88: the ties of upper harmonium should all bend down.
13. bars 85 and 87, viol. 2: the slurs look a bit shifted to the right.
14. in bar 87, viol 2 it looks a bit too far away from the notes (hard one,
I guess)
15. bar 89, harmonium, the ties coming from the previous line look strangely
asymmetric.
16. bar 92, lower harmonium, the tie should bend downwards.
17. bar 93, lower harmonium, the tie is curved too strongly.
18. the closing repeat sign matching 7.
Now, I really have to say again that most of the slurs and ties really
look great and better than ever! I didn't mention the placement of ties
between too chords, which are now evenly distributed between bending
up and down! I was looking forward to this from the first time
I used lily!
I am really thankful for this, this is well done.
Please tell me if you have problems in reproducing the effects I described
above using the attached files.
Dirk
