OK, perhaps describing this release as a "fiasco" was a little harsh.  But
this version is not what I have come to expect from my prior years of usage of
Gnucash which has been bug-free from what I can remember.  I have never had to
spend so much time deleting, installing, reinstalling, googling what has gone
wrong, look for solutions and finally get to a point where I can use Gnucash as
I normally do.

This is nothing to do with Geoff; all he said about GnuCash is true, and I am
VERY grateful to the GnuCash team. As a software engineer myself, I appreciate
the work that goes into maintaining Gnucash.
HOWEVER...
Every time someone mentions a problem with GnuCash, someone posts something
like the post below, effectively attacking the messenger... ("How DARE you say
anything negative about GnuCash; it's FREE and people VOLUNTEER their time to
maintain it")
This is unfair... because the people behind GnuCash do an outstanding job with
new releases, they have set the set our expectations high. They do good work,
and we, the user base, expect it.
Thus when a release like 5.13 comes out and has several problems, it certainly
seems fair to ask questions about it and it seems a bit unjust to attack such a
user.
(As a side note, I would not call 5.13 a "fiasco"; I would use that word if
5.13 was corrupting the data files beyond repair... THAT would be a  "fiasco" -
this is just a buggy release.)
In my recollection, there have been 2-3 release issues like this one over the
last dozen or so releases. The GnuCash team has been excellent about jumping on
these issues and getting them fixed.
But let's not attack people who point out the problems.

One and all,

“When will this fiasco with the official stable 5.13 be resolved?”

I appreciate the frustration sometimes felt by fellow users when things go
wrong but we all need to learn to live with it while it is resolved.

Let’s all remember,

1.    Gnucash is FREE software and generally does a fantastic job.

2.    It is developed and supported by VOLUNTEERS who generously give their
time while holding down a full time job.

I am staggered by the patience they show in responding to the occasional poorly
phrased comment that arises from the frustration that this release in
particular has generated.

Let’s be positive and offer detailed feedback on any crash or bug to help this
small group of hard working individuals spread throughout the world find a
solution. I have every confidence they will.
