: - )   Understood. handy thing about NextCloud it has an informative display that shows sync status. I think gnc save every 10 seconds? Or a minute - I think it's configurable I'm always seeing nc flip off a sync every so often when I'm working a gnc session. At anyrate it's mainly for a warm feeling that I always have a backup on other media I rarely switch to access it from other machines.

Not sure how NextCloud works but most systems like this synchronize a
folder on your computer with a version in the cloud and you only ever
access the local copy. You need to be aware of how long that
synchronisation takes if using GnuCash on multiple devices synchronized
to the same cloud files. With Dropbox it sometimes takes several
minutes after saving the file for the cloud version to be updated and
synchronized to the local files on other devices.

List,

I have a self hosted NextCloud instance. I have
/home/me/GNUCash/Data/
directory on Debian trixie that is shared to my Nextcloud. I switched
from windows 11 as my daily driver over a year ago where I used the
windows version of gnc on that same share. And I have occasionally,
rarely, used windows to access those files again. Other than flushing
changes with file:save or ^s I haven't done anything to prepare the
files to be used by either OS. I did make sure that gnc versions
matched. With NextCloud I'm not reading the files from the cloud but
rather from the local copies.

You’ll also want to transfer the state files and any config files,
see https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Backup#Related_Files.
There’s no good way that I can think of to move the preferences
between operating systems, but there are instructions on that page
for deploying them. You can use that to guide you through the
Gnucash>Settings dialog to get it back the way you want.

Hi Guys

I’m struggling. Another dumbo in cyberspace!

I’ve been happily and successfully been using GNU0-CASH since
about
September 2022, on Windows10 OS.
My booking keeping in post retirement is
basic - Income (Sources & Amounts, by date) & Expenses.
My Windows 10 Laptop is antique now, so acting on advice of all
the “expert”
IT friends, I updated to latest MacPro M5.
I had thought from reading GNU-Cash help manual that the
transfer would be
easy - using the Wizard to copy Account Tree, Transactions, &
Active
Register, using CSV data.
But when I copied these as CSV to the Mac, and opened on the
New Mac to
check what was showing, then noticed only partial data
transferred,
seemingly primarily from year 2024/25, not older or latest
data.
So, I’m wondering what I’m doing wrong? -In my attempts to move
all records
since start with GNU in Sept 2024, untilmnnow Jan 2026.
Can anyone enlighten me , to get GNU-Cash running with all my
historical
data , under the Mac OS one the new machine?
Thanks
Chris
London
