No worries - I got the idea you. I also wanted to have a links to estate documents which don't nicely fall into one of those assets where opening balance entry can server as a document link. I may be a bit overboard in trying to keep individual entries for them hence the second use case.
As for the virtual account, I'll merge it with the broker's actual account (where I keep track broker transactions like money transfers, interest received, etc.) and then point the opening balance to the folder which removes that one level. I do, however, want to track individual commodities in each account hence it can serve both function by a single parent account. -----Original Message----- From: Adrien Monteleone <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, January 29, 2026 8:27 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [GNC] Transaction Linked Document - acceptable Linked Location values Sorry, I edited that reply several times, and I flubbed some references. Yes, I have opening balance transactions for both my house and car, entered many years after acquiring them, as of the date I entered them, and then linked a multi-page pdf to each transaction reflecting title and 'finance math' up to that date. Subsequent transactions and purchases had their own individual linked documents for just that particular transaction. I see no need to create virtual accounts just for linking documents.
