Hi Keith,

I suppose your expectation is incorrect.

When we tell GnuCash to not save a filter and there is an existing saved filter for the register, GnuCash will remove the saved filter when the file is closed (restoring the default filter settings for the register). This can be confirmed by viewing the gcm file. The committed filter changes will persist for the session.

To maintain an existing saved filter for a register, I suggest not committing session specific filter changes (not selecting OK on the "Filter by..." window). This is consistent with the filter behavior on the "Accounts" tab.

Regards,

Sherlock

I described the problem incorrectly: sorry. Let me try again.

The register shows only unreconciled transactions (which is what I normally
want). I go to View, Filter By..., Status and check 'Reconciled', leaving Save
Filter unchecked. I see all transactions.

I close and re-open GnuCash. I still see all transactions.

My apologies for the incorrect earlier description.

Sound to me like it is working correctly.
You said "f I the clear the Reconciled checkbox and clear the Save Filter
checkbox, only unreconciled transactions are shown as I'd expect. Since you've
unchecked save filter, when you close Gnu Cash it doesn't save the new setting and
reverts back to all transactions when it reopens.

Thank You,

Summary: View, Filter By..., Status tab, clear Save Filter checkbox doesn't seem to work for me.

I'm running v5.10 under Debian Trixie (13.5) with the PostgreSQL backend.

If I open an account register and go to View, Filter By..., Status tab, check
all boxes including Save Filter, and click OK, the account register shows all
transactions as I'd expect. If I close GnuCash and reopen it, again all
transactions are still shown as I'd expect.

If I the clear the Reconciled checkbox and clear the Save Filter checkbox, only
unreconciled transactions are shown as I'd expect.

If I close GnuCash and reopen it, all transactions are shown.

My expectation was that clearing the Save Filter box would mean that the
specific filtering selected would only persist for that session, and would
revert to the previous setting when GnuCash is restarted.

Is my expectation incorrect?

Thanks,
Keith
