Thank you for this. It seems that if I leave the filter dialog box open, I can temporarily show reconciled transactions, cancel the dialog and the saved settings are not changed, which is what I want.
However, I find the "Save filter" checkbox utterly unintuitive. My expectation that leaving it unchecked would not change the current filter, but that's not true. To me, that feels like a bug but I recognise that one person's bug is another persons "works as expected". ----- Original message ----- From: Sherlock <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [GNC] Clearing Save Filter checkbox doesn't work for me Date: Wednesday, 3 June 2026 08:10 On 6/2/26 9:42 PM, Stan Brown (using GC 4.14) wrote: > > On 2026-06-02 16:37, Sherlock wrote: >> When we tell GnuCash to not save a filter and there is an existing saved >> filter for the register, GnuCash will remove the saved filter when the >> file is closed (restoring the default filter settings for the register). >> This can be confirmed by viewing the gcm file. The previously saved filter is removed if the "Filter by..." window is OK'd without the "Save Filter" box checked. At the end of the session, the register change is committed to the gcm file without a filter. When the session is restarted, the gcm file is reloaded and the register will use the default filter. This appears to be the intended mechanism provided to allow us to remove a previously saved register filter - to restore the use of the default register filter when the session reopens - while maintaining the existing register filter for the current session.
