That is a fair use case. 

I think it would be preferrable to leave the standard Balance Sheet and
P&L as they are and create specialized reports for those management
accounting purposes though. It should be in principle possible to use
the filtering code from other reports and put it into the Balance sheet
code to create a customised version. Means learning enough Scheme of
course.
