Focusing on what is available now, I'm with Adrien on using text and filtered transaction reports but I think it is more straightforward.
Try Options, Sorting use "Show subtotals only" and "Show Full Account Name". It's not as pretty as you might like but I think it's workable in a spreadsheet.
