It might be possible to run multiple Transaction Reports inside a
multi-column report to get closer to the end result within GnuCash. I'd
have to play around with this though to know for sure.

Try Options, Sorting use "Show subtotals only" and "Show Full Account
Name". It's not as pretty as you might like but I think it's workable in a
spreadsheet.
