I think my reports will be useful for more people than just me so

I will leave that for a later discussion.  I will write them as custom
reports first.

It sounds to me like you just signed up for the very hard way to do a simple job, Neil.

1. learn scheme

2. learn how gnc does scheme

3. etc

How about the easy path?  Create an anonymous sqlite3 db containing relevant stuff AND describe the report in detail.

I reckon I could give you the SQL before you even worked out how to load a new Scheme report from a directory and then started wondering why the gnc wiki is wrong.

What have you got to lose?  My SQL will be a template if nothing else.
