You don’t need to rebuild GnuCash to do that, see https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Custom_Reports#Load_the_report_from_a_user_account. The next section in that wiki page is loading from the installation directory, but that requires re-installing your custom reports every time you upgrade GnuCash.
