I just tried it myself on RC3, and after 'apt-get install
x-window-system-core' command I was able to start X by simply typing 'X'
in superuser console...

Remember, that full GUI integration is out of NCP project goals...
Please read why and what allowed in 'main' NCP:

http://www.nexenta.org/os/NexentaRepositoryPolicyMain

We trying to stimulate other projects around NCP to produce more Desktop
oriented distributions. Such distributions could be initiated by anyone
who is talented artist and bright developer.

NCP project could be used as is to produce such distribution, could be
redistributed from other websites - no obligations! Its a CORE for other
distributions.

At the same time - we focus it on ZFS and storage related technologies.
In my opinion, NCP is great for servers! And once stable 1.0 is out, we
should expect many support companies and individuals to offer their
support services.

Stay tune or initiate your Desktop community now!
