Hi, As far as I know, and I had posted this earlier, the plans for the naval air station at Karwar are only at the drawing board stage. The project has not yet received budgetary support. I would think that it would take at least 5-10 years to build up the air station, assuming it gets priority in the defence budget. Even after the air station is operational, it will not be able to operate heavy long range aircraft like the Tu 142. The MIG29K will primarily operate from the deck of the aircraft carrier Vikramaditya(ex Gorshkov), but will transition to Goa when the carrier is in harbour or under refit. When the air facility at Karwar is ready, carrier borne and shipborne aircraft(helicopters) will move from Goa to Karwar. regards, Gilbert Menezes.
