Joe’s response:
Marlon, first of, you do not need the Government’s decision or permission to protest – that’s why it is called “protest” -- nor does it mandate a public vote or poll –- even a lone (individual) person has the fundamental right to protest. Do people in USA need permission from their Government to protest?

Now want counts is: was the protest was legitimate? From the protestors’ point of view it was; all they were doing was adding their active voices to an issue they believed in.

Marlon, the one thing you continually do on Goanet is ridicule peoples religious beliefs and thrive on religion bashing?

Now, before you begin to fly further accusations, let me say this: I did not support or oppose the protest, rather simply stressed the need for people to come to the fore with issues facing them, -- stand up and be counted. It was a remarkable and commendable act by the Goan people from different creeds coming together with show of support and unity. I hope such united-front effort and collaboration continues, in order to tackle several burning issues involving Goans in Goa.

[Again, another bit of ridiculous and flawed analysis by Joe! People are free to protest, but when they threaten others with violence, they are crossing the line. Again, it just goes to show that religious extremists cannot be trusted with following the law and governance.]

Joe responds:
So, you agree that people are free to protest (sans the permission of Government, or public vote or poll). Now pray tell us, what were the causalities of the threat/violence you alluded to in the protest above?

Moreover, what have you to say about the many Muslims/Hindus that are being unfairly targeted/attacked in the U.S. because of their religion/ethnicity/appearance? Do you see any lines crossed yet, in this scenario?

[Really? Just because YOU and a few other intolerant extremists are offended by my factual arguments, does not mean that others are. Again, you provide no statistical evidence to back your claims.]

Joe responds:
Marlon, as far as I know, the archives are not password-protected; you don’t have to go so far to stack up the statistics. Please checkout your recent ranting and ravings that evoked objections by other netters, to your abusive postings.

Again, you do not cease to humor me, when you term me as “intolerant extremist”. Either you are oblivious of the meaning of the term or simply schizophrenic? Intolerant extremist do not necessarily associate with people from other religions or respect other religious views. You need to know me before you label me (even remotely) as an extremist of any kind.

[For readers who do not know, I used to volunteer with the goanet admin during the early days and helped with the mailing list.

Joe's comments above indicate his total lack of understanding of the issues or represent deliberate lies on his part.

For one, yahoogroups had severe quotas during the early days as space used to be a premium then. That is why there were scattered backups of goanet during that period as old files would be overwritten.

Secondly, the real issue was the costly, slow and unreliable net connections in Goa. If people were going to send hundreds of public birthday greetings to an individual and flood everyone's mailboxes in the process, it would (and did) have caused major technical and financial burdens on others.]

Joe responds:
Good for you Marlon, you need to be commended for being a very thoughtful ex-admin team member. However, as you know – even your Goanet Admin Team members did not agree with you. Your long explanation above regarding server quotas, lack of archival storage etc is convoluted reasoning and an attempt to camouflage facts. To the contrary, the Yahoo-Groups always had sufficient server space.

For those interested: Marlon had problem with two Dussehra greetings, one of which was posted by me on Goanet:

Here’s my original post:

”Subject: [Goanet] Re: Dashara greetings

Mrs Alka, Dr. Ramamurti Raut Desai & All GoaNetters:

Best wishes on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra.

Peace, happiness & prosperity.

Joe Vaz”

==========

Joe: Personally, I consider each day to be “auspicious” – by God’s grace.
Dussehra is a festive day especially auspicious for our Goan Hindu sisters & brothers.

So I ask: 1.
What’s wrong in posting festive greetings …<
=========

It is worth mentioning that Marlon did not object to two personal greetings involving him (or his interests) on the same Yahoo-Groups server. Isn’t what’s good for the goose also good for the gander? Or are we talking double-standards?
