In my belief the best team assembled was in 1977 by one Red ant from Guirim. It
was a junior boys team under 18 playing against many bharat top players. Team
Goa narrowly missed qualification into quarterfinals after losing narrowly to
Madhya Pradesh 3-2. Another good performance was the ladies team somewhere in
the 70's also. I think they lost in the semi finals to Punjab.

In the 70's the Goan college outfits specially SS Dempo could compete with
rivals from Bombaim (University of Bombaim inter college championship). I had
the privilege to play against the likes of Joaquim Carvalho who represented
Chinai college, bharat captain and then coach.

The problem is that the Presidents of Association are people who have no
interest and clue about the sport.

Dear JC, hockey was "alive" in Goa, though technically it was run from
Bombay, now Mumbai. Aniceto Fernandes was secretary of both men's and
women's hockey. I think men's president was Dayanand Bandodkar, at least
for a time, and the women's president was his daughter Sashikala Kakodkar.

Maybe someone on the list can enlightened us more.
