Rajan seems to be skating on thin ice here. His logic is akin to an advertising
company telling a TV Channel that has the sole rights of broadcasting an
India-Australia Cricket World Cup Finals:
“We want our advertisement featured on this channel during the Cricket World
Cup Finals between India and Australia. We want to derive maximum advantage of
the enormous reach this channel has to showcase our product. We want the entire
Nation to talk about our product for the next 6 months at least, if not longer.
But we will not pay anything for this service. We want it to be featured
entirely on our terms. Whether it is to be played once between two overs or
once between 5 overs, it is we who shall decide. Whether our advertisement is
vulgar, indecent or obscene is not for the channel to look into. So what if we
are using your channel’s tremendous reach to feature it, it is our idea and our
product and we shall decide. We will also first take suggestions from your
channel’s loyal viewers how we can improve upon our product before we launch
it. We will use your channel’s slot for soliciting those suggestions half an
hour daily for the next 15
days and we will not pay for that also”
There has been so much blood, sweat and tears to take Goanet to where it stands
today and Rajan must stop acting so unreasonable, illogical and morally
unethical here.. I do not know if Dr Anand shares Rajan’s views on all this but
I think the moderators must make it clear to them that the tail cannot wag the
dog. If Rajan and Dr Anand wanted the interview this way, on their terms, they
should have spelt that out clearly from day one. Dr Anand’s initial post on
this says nothing of that sort. I would think that a majority of Goanetters
have discussed this issue and sent in their questions believing that this
interview, as and when held, will be a Goanet official initiative with Dr Anand
getting duly acknowledged for mooting this original proposal.
If Rajan wanted the interview to be held on his terms, he should have written
privately to the people whom he know, soliciting their questions for his
interview and not used the Goanet Network and platform for the same. Rajan
cannot have the cake and eat it too.
My own take on this is that this interview should be conducted on Goanet’s
terms and not on Rajan’s or Anand’s. Let Goanet decide who the interrogator
will be, in whose presence it must be held and other details of the same. Else,
let’s close this topic once and for all here, let Rajan and Anand do whatever
they wish to in their personal capacities, but no LINK of the interview should
be posted here! Let them post their interview of Youtube or wherever and let
them communicate to whomsoever privately, not via Goanet.
I think the rules framed by the moderators, if the interview is to be held as a
Goanet initiative, are by and large fair. Maybe point No 4( Manohar
Parrikar/Goan politician is welcome to choose the questions he wishes to
answer) needs reconsideration.
If, as per Point No 3 the questions to be asked will be fair, civil and
responsible and will be given to the interviewee ahead of time, I see no reason
why they can then choose some and avoid some. I am sure Manohar Parrikar would
not fend off a single question, as he has the answers to anything and
everything, but some other politicians would, rendering this whole exercise
futile and ineffective. Imagine a Narvekar coming here and avoiding questions
on the Cricketgate scam or on the IT Park! Or a Mauvin avoiding questions on
the Powerscam, etc.
I would also suggest that this interview be held in a larger place like the
Maquinez Palace Auditorium 2(seating capacity around 90) or the Kala Acadamy
Black Box(seating capacity around 200). A nominal entry fee can be charged to
meet the costs. Both the above venues are air conditioned while Art Gallery in
the Institute of Menezes Braganza, Panjim would be the cheaper option. This
would give many more goanetters the opportunity to witness the interview LIVE.
A short interaction session with Parrikar could perhaps follow, giving this
whole event a more human touch giving the audience the opportunity to privately
know Parrikar better. I am sure Parrikar too would appreciate such kind of a
venture instead of the dull and drab hush-hush kind of an interview that is
being mooted. Goanet could share this feed too, on a later date, to Press and
the local News Channels, even perhaps earn revenue out of the same.
Goanet can count on me for any help required in organizing this event.

Once again, we use Goanet only to solicit questions.
