Hello, I would like to request to use the project name "mlcs". I would use it to post implementations of algorithms from my book: _M_athematical _L_ogic for _C_omputer _S_cience, a well known textbook published by Springer: http://www.springer.com/978-1-85233-319-5 I have just finished a new edition and I would prefer that this source code be easily available and easy to share through Google Code, rather than on my own website or the publisher's.
Concerning the existing project: 1. How long has the project lay fallow? The project was created in 2007 and has seen no activity since its creation 5 years ago. 2. Is there something "fishy" about the circumstances of the request? Yes. The description is just "test" with a link to a real project (WEKA) that actually uses SourceForge, not Google Code :-). 3. Is there code in that project? There is code in the svn repository but there is nothing to download, nothing in the Wiki, no Issues, etc. 4. Is the project scheduled for deletion? No. 5. Is the project you wish to take over a spam trap or hosting malware or simply not open source? It is a real project but does not use Google Code (cf. question 2). 6. Have you made an effort in good faith to contact the current owners? What, if anything, did they have to say in reply? An email exchange with the linked project (below) shows that they have no knowledge of this project. 7. Has one of the original developers died or otherwise dropped off the grid in some fashion that you can describe to us? There is no full email address on the project site and no one of that name is listed in the website linked to. 8. Have you hosted malware, spam or non-open source content on Project Hosting before? I have created a number of bona fide projects. some of which (e.g. "jspin") have seen thousands of downloads. Thanks for concerning my request, Moti -- Prof. Mordechai (Moti) Ben-Ari Department of Science Teaching Weizmann Institute of Science http://www.weizmann.ac.il/sci-tea/benari/ ________________________________________ From: [email protected] [[email protected]] on behalf of Mark Hall [[email protected]] Sent: Friday, March 02, 2012 10:06 PM To: Mordechai Ben-Ari Subject: Re: Project name on Google Code Hi Moti, This sounds like some third-party project that uses or used Weka at some point. It has nothing to do with us, so go ahead and make the request. Cheers, Mark.
