Yes, this is what I meant.

No, the iGoogle Gadgets do not have access to anything on the client
other than what the browser/Javascript exposes (local date and time
for instance).

The Battery Meter gadget is not a iGoogle Gadget, but a Google Desktop
Sidebar gadget which can be added on your iGoogle page:

If you do not have Google Desktop installed on your computer, this
gadget will not work.

You will have to check the Google Desktop documentation and ask the
other group I referenced in my previous post if you want to do this
with a Desktop gadget.
