Dgd, unfortunately our excellent Google guides were assigned to other duties - Chrome ? - so we users are on our own here ! Let me ask, if you first log in to your Gmail account on one tab, and then access Picasa 3 and try to send a photo via your Gmail account, does that work ? If not, have you considered uninstalling and then re-installing the version of Picasa that you are using on your Fedora box to see if doing so resolves the problem ?...

I'm running (64-bit) Ubuntu Karmic and would love to have access to something similar....
