I think an open-source Flash API would make everybody happy! This would be the best solution, the bugs / enhancements will be fixed in less time and you don't have to pay for the development!
Google what do you think, what is it that apparently so few use the Flash API? I think, it is because for some it simply unusable in this state (for example AIR seconds 15 BUG)and you have not changed anything for years.
