I guess the right way to do it is something similar to what Bill
Chadwick has done.  I believe his library subclasses the GPoly classes
which means it cannot be used in "stand alone" mode.

To me, the main reason to use static maps is to bypass loading the
whole dynamic map API without violating the TOU.  Are you aware of a
good light weight JS library with cross browser support to build
arbitrary polys ?
