That sounds like something is blocking access to maps.google.com, so
nothing (including Javascript files and images) which come from there
can be used on your machine.

Assuming that you haven't edited your Hosts file [don't worry if that
means nothing], and your wife's machine is using the same connection
to the internet as yours, a question which occurs to me is are running
any adblocking software? Have you added maps.google.com to it?

(You've tried without an active firewall, so that's not causing it;
and if your wife is connecting through the same router, it's unlikely
that's configured to block it.)

If the answer to either of the above questions is no, then I'm afraid
I'm out of ideas from this side of the Atlantic.
