That is true, but I thought it is possible for one, who knows how
polylines and icons are handled by different browsers, to estimate
which approach is faster by knowing if it GPolyline or GIcon based.

Well, take any reasonable big number you like. It doesn't matter if it
will be 100 or 10 or 1000. Just answer, which one will be faster and
why you think so? :)
