Using the Lat/Lng to pixel and reverse transformations to work out the
Arrow head coords in LatLon is what the BDCC ArrowedPolyline code
does. I agree that rendering is slow with lots of arrow heads drawn
with polylines.

It might also be worth taking a look at the SVG/VML arrow demo which
uses native VML/SVG to draw the arrow heads and the sub-classed
Polyline (BdccPolyline) and try and mix the two. Both these demos are
on http://www.bdcc.co.uk/Gmaps/BdccGmapBits.htm . If achievable, this
should be a high performance solution for directed GPolylines on all
browsers that support VML or SVG (most of the main ones).
