Thanks Esa for the advice.  The solution did work for the my original 
"click" problem.

Unfortunately, the "new" problem I'm facing ( being not able to use 
GPolyline "mouseover" and "mouseout" events at the same time as the map 
"mousemove" event ) is persistent in FF3 as well as IE7 and 8.
