You obviously haven't tried TabLayoutPanel.

They may be perfect for *you* right now, but I'm willing to bet that
for every one of you there are ten developers that skip GWT and go
with JQueryUI or ExtJS or Dojo because "my app will look better".
Most engineers don't have great CSS and design skills, don't
underestimate the draw of aesthetics.

An official competition to produce a new theme seems like a good idea.
 Or Google could throw some money at an outside design firm.

I'll bet there is a ready market for some sort of commercial product
here, like GXT done right.  I'd pay for something that looks good and
integrates well with GWT layouts.
