Well, unfortunately it does not work! You see I was already very close. and did all you prescribe, except selecting "compizconfig-settings-manager", so I installed that, double- checked that I had indeed removed "xcompmgr" from the start list, and tried it again. But the desktop windows just blink a few times off and on again, and then a warning appears saying "Bureaublad-effecten kon niet worden ingeschakeld", which translates to "desktop effects could not be turned on". I tried it with both the normal and extra effects.
So I tried removing everything that I had turned on after searching for Compiz, and after that installing only "compiz" and "compizconfig- settings-manager" so that I followed your instructions to the letter, but it did not help, and the error message does not help a bit finding out -why- the compix effects couldn't be turned on. I also tried running glgears, but it did not exist, and Synaptic does not know it either, so I figured that what was meant was glxgears (with an 'x' ), and that ran, and showed three running gears. with a frame-rate slightly below 200fps. So it seems that open-GL works. So I still have no compiz fusion effects. :-( On 27 sep, 21:05, Kevin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > First get the Compiz Window Management Software by going to > Menu -> System Preferences ->Administrator -> Synaptic Package Manager > Search for Compiz and click on both > 'compiz' and 'compizconfig-settings-manager' > Apply Changes to Install. > > Now turn off the basic window compositing so Compiz can take over: > Menu -> System Preferences -> Preferences ->Sessions > Remove 'xcompmgr' from the bottom of the list. > Logout of current session and Log back in. > > Lastly turn on your Compiz effects by right clicking on your desktop > and accessing Change Desktop Background, then click the Desktop > Effects tab.
