The back end programe that operates scanners is sane, with a gui front end in XSane, although I prefer to use the front end Quiteinsane. Looking up on the Sane website, you will see a group of scanners that Sane supports. Unfortunately the Lexmark 2500 is not among them, but do not yet give up. Check that sane-find-scanner is installed on your system by typing in a terminal: locate sane-find-scanner If it is, all well and good, but if not, search synaptic for sane, and then install sane-find-scanner or just sane by this command in a terminal: sudo apt-get install sane-find-scanner <your password> or just sudo apt-get install sane <your password> then run the command: sane-find-scanner -v -v and see what output you get. Go back to the Sane website and search for the device you find, and see if its supported. There are very few scanner manufacturers which support Linux, and so we have to resort to reverse engineering to get them to work, but its my guess this particular scanner is not supported. Of course, if you want to continue using gOS, you may have to think about getting a scanner that IS supported. I can recommend the HP PSC series if you want to get an "All In One" item. Once you have established what you would like, try your local Freecycle branch to see if there is anything available withot cost....or check out eBay. http://www.freecycle.org/group/UK/ HTH -- Graham Todd --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "gOS Linux" group.
