Okay, I have a flashplayer-plugin again, and YouTube is working fine
again!
What's more, I now have "Shockwave Flash 10.0 r12" running, as shown
in the Add-ons menu of Firefox.

This is what I did;
I found -this- forum post in the ubuntu fora:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1006739&highlight=flashplugin-nonfree

I followed the advise of Wolfen69 (the second post), and went to
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer where I chose (using the "select
version to download" pulldown menu) the ".deb for Ubuntu 8.04+"
option, and followed the instructions. That worked fine!
It seems that adobe is trying to force everybody to install the
version on their site, instead of from a repository, well, it doesn't
say "flashplayer-nonfree" for nothing! Flash is a commercial product,
even if its free (as in "free beer").
