Hi JudgeBluey, Bugger about the lost data. It's always an expensive lesson to learn.
Just to clarify a few things. gOS uses Ubuntu 8.04 and puts another 'desktop' on it. In Linux you can install different Graphic User Interfaces (GUIs or desktops) and so on the one computer you can choose which type of interface you'd like to use. In fact, you can choose to have more than one installed and change between them whenever you like. So, just to surprise you, you are STILL using Ubuntu :) Skype works in Ubuntu (I use it on three different machines - a netbook, a laptop and a desktop) and should work in gOS just as easily. The issues to look for are where your 'in-going' sound is 'coming from'. For example. On my netbook (ASUS eeepc 701) there is a built-in microphone and webcam. I had to check the various sound sources to work out which one I needed to use with Skype. My desktop and laptop both use the built-in microphone in the add-on webcam. I'd suggest checking the settings in Skype to see which device it thinks it wants to use, then try any others it may list. Additionally, you can right click on the speaker icon on you gOS desktop and check under 'advanced' (I think it's called) and ensure that your 'view' allows you to modify the various input/output settings. I could be that the device being used by Skype is not the best. It could also be that you need to modify the settings for the microphone input or 'line input' (if using a separate microphone) to ensure you are getting the best quality. See how you go and get back to us. Regards, Patrick JudgeBluey wrote: > I'm quite new to gOS, so be gentle please.
