HELLO I had exactly the same problem with ubuntu tried to many ways to try and get it to work downloaded all the sudo stuff i needed etc and went to make a phone call with it and it turns out there was a problem with my sound driver so i just gave up on the idea ubuntu is good but the skype function needs to be sorted , till then g os rules for me as i installed it logged into skpe no problems what so ever , g os works straight out of the box. It sounds to me like your skype usb phone or headset has a problem as my headset has a button on it and it was switched the wrong way as soon as i flicked the switch it was fine. Try another headset & make a skype test call to see if your voices is coming through ok. Cheers Dave
