Alas, this is just wishful thinking. The source code repositories and branding are owned and controlled by Mozilla Foundation and Brendan no longer has any legal standing to control these. The Foundation may allow Brendan to decide on many issues, but he is no longer the 'ultimate authority on Mozilla's source code'.
This is rather beside the point. There are enough competent people to maintain the source, but there is no competent leader to orchestrate the larger battle for the open web and this is not just a matter of grand-fathering the Mozilla source while making a living working the presentation circuit. Brendan won't start another organization, at least, not one that would be a competitor to Mozilla. Something that has received almost zero attention is the fact that although he's no longer an employee of the Mozilla corporation, he's still an integral part of the Mozilla project: he still owns the "top-level" module for the project's source code (see https://wiki.mozilla.org/Modules/All#mozilla-toplevel). What this means is that he is -- as he has been for over a decade -- the ultimate authority on Mozilla's source code, and the final arbiter of any disputes relating to the source code.
