I am not sure what you are trying to achieve here, Michael. If you are
using XP then user settings are set at logon and you cannot see other
users' data.

If they are using the same logon and instance of thunderbird you can
have still have separate accounts but force them to logon each time they
connect. If you are using e-smith in your surgery, you can achieve this
using the IMAP instead of POP. If you want shared user accounts just
create them. E-smith/tbird gives you very fine grained control over
email settings.
