Path labs don't know when PAP smear is due. They can follow the
recommendations, but the fllow up may be earlier than 2 years because of the
clinical situation. TheDoctor determines when follow up is due. Surely the
Doctor enters a recall date in his computer - or is he / she too lazy to do
it, or doesn't know how to get the recalls out ?
A number of GPs have resisted my efforts to get them doing Pap recalls
on the basis that their provider tells them when they are due. Interesting.
Radiology: Patients often go to a different X-ray povider than the one GP
selects. Now if the E-mailed company has to chase the patient for a no
show, when in fact patient went elsewhere, we again open a Pandoras box.
When they then also inform the GP of a no show when patient went elsewhere
How will they do that if they don't have the referral in their hand?
Only the company the GP has sent the electronic referral to would have
the evidence of a valid referral, signed with the GP's HeSa signing key
to be valid, unless a centralised system similar to the proposals for
MediConnect is proposed. The patient, presumably, could indicate their
preferred radiologist at the point of referral.
In either of these cases wouldn't the 'no-show' be checkable?
