Your example is unfit. If you come with a factured ankle to me, I will X-Ray it, set it, put a plaster onto it. Each action has a set fee which you get told beforehand, and an expected outcome whcih you get told too. I will not keep chargng you the rest of your life for "preventing the sequelae of an untreated ankle fracture". If the plaster is not sitting well, I will redo it at no charge. If the outcome is not as expected, you will sue me and I will loose and have to pay - several orders of magnitude more than you paid me. That is, I solve your problem at a pre-determined one-off fee, and I am liable for the outcome. I want the same for software. Don't tell me it can't be done - I have been in software development PRIOR to getting into medicine for about as long as I have been in medicine.
