I'm in the process of establishing a "new" practice in a different location. Having experienced working in Medicine prior to Medicare I've decided that the best system, after all, is to give the patient an account for what one thinks the service is worth and leaving them to bring Medicare into it. As far as is possible we have ignored Medicare's rules and what it is prepared to refund the patient. It is not possible to ignore the system completely (the patient needs the numbers to get any sort of refund) but it is a liberating feeling to be able to value oneself freely in what has become a rigid system which is slowly strangling the life out of what I would call Medicine (with that capital M). It took quite some talking to make my staff understand the principle, which just shows how the bureaucracy has altered the general attitude to medical services. It'll be an interesting experience...we may have no patients soon, but it's worth a try. G
we seem to do okay, and even better, most of our growth is via "word of mouth", which already primes the customers with the knowledge that we aren't "free", but you get what you pay for
the triage aspect of attracting motivated patients is great, and it's not like there are a lack of opportunities to shop elsewhere locally if they aren't pleased with the arrangements
selfish i know, but so are most patients within their own requirements ash _______________________________________________ Gpcg_talk mailing list [email protected] http://ozdocit.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/gpcg_talk
