No. It's a clear sign that some vendors hope for huge cash return by establishing either a (regional) monopoly or at least a high degree of customer lock-in. It may have stiffer competition = better products as a side effect, but I wouldn't take that for granted. If we would have a situation where vendors would be compelled to comply with interoperable standards and only differenciate themselves in customer support, ease of use of product, ease of installation and maintenance of product then such vendor enthusiasm would be excellent news indeed - alas, it is more the enthusiasm that comes with staking out an exlusive claim on a gold field.
