Very good point - I am grappling with this very problem right now. I am trying to get to those who hold the purse-strings to explain how a hospital EHR will: - save $millions in hard copy filing and storage, - save lives with decision support (eg. Penicillin allergy recorded in EHR produces alarm prompts if Penicillin prescribed), - enable instant transfer of patient information between hospital, GP and specialist saving money (reduced duplication of tests) and increasing patient safety (reduced duplication/ repetition of Xray investigations), etc, etc. At this stage, noone of influence seems interested, but I will keep trying.
