So what clinics are lining up to use this tech (Peter M) to look after their

Just joking Pete, but the bias must make it hard for you to sleep at night after charging the majority of your clients real money to fix their Windows
networks you loathe so much :)

(a) I hope the doctors on this list can sleep at night after charging real money to fix diseases they loathe so much.

(b) I'm not sure how you conclude from what I wrote that I "loathe" Windows networks.

I'm a Windows user, I just don't use it in exclusion of other OSs, and I use what is appropriate (for me) for the job.

This means, in general:

Linux as a server - virtual machine host, file, web, e-mail, directory, print.
Mac notebooks and desktops.
Windows as a terminal server for applications that are better or easier on Windows (not too many of these now), and for non-technical staff and customers (running on top of whatever - my non-technical staff and family are now comfortable on any platform provided they can find a web browser and an RDP client).

I would not and do not advocate a Windows client / server network for most situations, because I see this as a huge waste of money for a result that is so much dearer than any alternative and provides a lesser result.

I do support and provide Windows desktops for those who require them or insist that they do, but when the network is more than a couple of machines, I always have the terminal server discussion - centralise the important stuff, and access it from whatever you have, or whatever you want on the desk. If you don't want to know about a computer on your desk, you get a thin client.

I don't have a problem with you or anyone remaining completely in the Microsoft world, nor do I think that there isn't a place for MS in computing.

I do have a problem with you telling me that I should do this or that I should have trouble sleeping because most of my clients are this way inclined. I only want to be able to choose an alternative if it suits me or those I consult for. Wishing for developers to be open minded and produce products that can be used on all platforms is not an insult to you or Microsoft.

cheers,
Peter.
