David, how's the performance of Xen going?
Looks OK on Windows but paying Xensource a license is well worth the
money for their control panel if for nothing else.
I need to setup 5 Linux servers and want to do them on a single host.
VMWare server or Xen?
VMware say (http://www.vmware.com/pdf/hypervisor_performance.pdf) they
are better on Windows. This is probably true if you do not have the Xen
PV Windows drivers which are only available in the commercial version.
Xen say they are better for linux and better for Windows if you use
their drivers (http://blogs.xensource.com/simon/?p=12) and this is
probably true too.
For a nix only box Xen, from your favoured repository, will fly.
Things change pretty quickly in the world of Xen. Here
(http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/HowTos) are some howtos for various
distros, but on debian this (http://wiki.debian.org/Xen) is probably the
most relevant.
