This is not about ability nor competence. It is about attitude.

The current situation is marked by previously unheared of levels of 
governmental  arrogance and micro-management attempts, and a hostility 
towards any signs of dissent or opposition.

There is no climate of productive discussion nor willingness to even try out 
alternative concepts no matter how promising they sound.

There is no environment of sharing information, not even the most rudimentary 
communication channels are open.

No, I don't see the opposition as a saviour. But I doubt it can get any worse 
than the current situation, so any change is likely to improve the current 
impasse.
