Data from the 2001 and earlier Censuses indicate that on average, about 20% of Australians change their place of residence every five years. However there is a lot of variation, with young people and people with lower socio-economic status moving a lot more often than teh well-off and middle aged. Not surprising. The aged move quite a bit, into aged care facilities, or sometimes to be looked after by the kids (if they are lucky). But point taken: Australians are quite a mobile bunch.
