Heck NO!! In fact BP has fixed some of the known issues that we had
with MD2.
I wonder if the same can be said for MD3? I hear that disappearing
icons are still a 'feature'.

Yes in 3.6 still there. Touch wood the crashes in the examination module
and letter writer has not yet occurred. I have started using the exam
module cautiously again and so far so good
