If I connect it without turning it on, the id is 054c:0830, so I guess
that is the charger mode. When I turn the camera on and it tries to
establish MTP connection, it is 054c:0cb1 momentarily so that is
probably the MTP mode. Then it fails, turn itself of and the id reverts
to 054c:0830.
PC Control mode gives 054c:0cb2. When in that mode:
$ gphoto2 --auto-detect
Model Port
----------------------------------------------------------
USB PTP Class Camera usb:002,017
Capture and download work. If I do this:
$ gphoto2 --capture-image
New file is in location /capt0000.jpg on the camera
New file is in location /capt0000.arw on the camera
then I cannot find those files anywhere on the camera.
If I set the camera to mass storage mode, the id is 054c:0cb0. And then
I can mount it.

Hi,
I think one is the "MTP" mode, the other the "charger" mode.
Can you switch it to PC Control mode in the cameras menus,
and report the USB id for those?
And also check if in that mode capture works?

Using Ubuntu desktop 18.04 with gphoto2 2.5.15.
When connecting my Sony DSC-RX100M5A in MTP mode, I get a dialog saying:

lsusb gives me sometimes: ID 054c:0cb1 Sony Corp.
and sometimes: ID 054c:0830 Sony Corp.
