hi i had a brief discussion with K K Kochu recently . As a scholar he has earned a place among dalits..but i doubt, that still the "mainstream" hesitate to accept him his presence among "cultural leaders", in the present context cant be seen, if i am not wrong, as a sign of inclusiveness in the kerala civil society as dalit/adivasis are utilised by the 'mainstream' to project an inclusive image u will Indian President or Brinda karat dancing with Adivasis ladies or dalit folk artists i earnestly hope that it's was not the case in Munnnar issue.. and happy to see them in the forefront...considering the fact that dalits remain a less power excerting group in kerala.. why i am saying this is bz, i have seen the kind of helplessness in dalit activists to break through the barriers of caste/marxist hegemony in kerala's context a CPM local leader is more powerful than any dalit 'cultural leader' ..this is a fact and dalit sstruggles suffer bz of this lack of excesses to excert power which they try to overcome in various other ways, though not being very successful/// and as such assumptions wont favor dalit/subaltern resistances when we talk abt the silences, it's not just aired at any particular leader. as i have mentioned in my previous mails, it's abt the silence/invisibility of it in the mainstream civil society debates "real issues" for our civil society determines its priorities and reflect the nature of power structure existing.. when chitralekha's resistance become commensensical "wht is ther to discuss abt" will be the response... and it's similar in other cases as well i have clarified in my precious mails that i was not attempting to make any particular perosn or persons to respond on one particular issue (though i asked wher r they? that provoked dilip) the question of morality could be very easily attributed...i hope it should have been raised at the right moment.. it's a been a Gandhian defence of the Oppressor to raise the question of morality whenever mass struggles posed challenge to the dominant... it's of no use other than serving the Masters...
'real issues' and 'real concerns' differ.. and could be relative also but this very process reflect/refract the ambiguities or conflicts within any attempt to challenge what's only seen would point towards the 'other' side of [un]seen the politics of power determines wht's to be seen, and resistances raise the [un]seen to the fore... finding politically correct answers from resistances may not help... at the same time one should be aware that it's not an end in itself i know my problematic position and expect it be problematised that's the only way to assay forth in the process of progress, but such a problematisation should/need not happen from a dominant power position i expect tht it should be for and from the dalit/subaltern political/social/cultural consciousness and i cant be so "healthy' in order to cater the tastes of the dominant and nothing more to say abt "ulparty janadhipatyam" it's likeanother "secular" Indian saga... and with ur 'polluted' English, u wanna warn the forum that it's become so healthy now that let us stop it???!!!!!!! 'healthy' need not be so HEALTHY for the dalit/subaltern as they r on the OTHER side --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ greenyouth mailinglist is the activist support mailinglist for kerala To post to this group, send email to [email protected] -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
